Isn’t it about time that we make good use of our White Privilege? The “white” community continues to preach that racism doesn’t exist, that they are diverse and inclusive, yet it’s truly hard to confirm this when you look around the affected community. It’s sad that much of the “white” community continue to believe that this affected community needs to somehow gain the upper edge through a maze of social and ethical challenges.

Why not start using the privilege that the “white” community maintains and use it against the system that maintains these barriers and give that upper edge to the affected community member. Every person has some level of privilege in their life due to their expertise in whatever field they are good at. This can vary from being mechanically-inclined to being physically fit to having good hair. White privilege, on the other hand, lurks in the underbelly of society and offends many. White privilege is the societal privilege that benefits “white” people over “non-white” people in society, particularly if they are otherwise under the same social, political, or economic circumstances.

Many examples exist where society has seen white privilege in action. White privilege is knowing that you are protected from the many dangers that the police pose; White privilege is knowing you will serve a sentence that is shorter than one for a member of the Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) community; White privilege is having the luxury to avoid informing your children of the harsh realities of systemic racism; White privilege is having the freedom to wear and act however you’d like without any labels; White privilege is not having to worry about being monitored in stores because the hue of your skin is darker than yours; White privilege is knowing that people will never label you a terrorist; White privilege is not being affected by negative stereotypes that have been perpetuated and ingrained into society that people believe as facts; just to name a few.

The “white” population with a genuine sense of unity, equality and equity have the duty to relinquish and eradicate this for of privilege to equalize standards. I found that an efficient way to complete this is by making good use of your white privilege by helping those affected to get them where they need to go by writing a resume for someone who struggles with that, by providing an interview attire for someone who can afford it, by providing transportation for someone with accessibility challenges, just to name.

It’s important for those who have contacts, connections, networks and powers to use their assets, skills and abilities to assist those less fortunate to balance society’s wealth. Hoarding that wealth, wisdom and knowledge or keeping it exclusively for your family only confirms how little they are willing to sacrifice to provide an ethical and equitable world for future generations and why many groups of people continue to dismiss the “white” community in interfering in their quests for freedom of hate.
….
Use your white privilege to denounce hate, to correct stereotypes that are being communicate; to correct misinformation being taught in schools, work and at home. Take the lead and provide a suitable example of intolerance towards hate and discrimination by refuting any off-colour jokes and inappropriate comments along with providing the necessary lessons behind its negative perception. Implement cultural and notable events around other communities’ cultures at-home or in-the-office such as: celebrating Ramadan, Diwali, Rosh Hashanah, etc.; buying products from a Black-owned company on a regular basis; getting your haircut from a barber and engaging in the conversation; volunteer to provide support, assistance and help to those without; provide free financial advice to those that require it; work with the homeless shelters to keep them stocked; amongst the many other creative ideas that you may be able to do.
….
Most importantly, give some of your money to those affected communities so they can reach your level of success. Nothing helps more than money. Make it easy for them to get this money and don’t place any restrictions of them. Don’t wait until the holiday to start giving, instead, do it weekly; if not, daily. Find a group, a cause, a community and send them a cheque, if they have a bank account; if not, give them cold-hard cash. Find people that need money to reach the next level and give it to them without waiting for them to ask. Do it freely.

White privilege is a super power that can be used for good or evil and if you chose to not use it or provide only to your immediate circle, you inherently made the choice to allow the oppression against those affected communities to continue. Use your white privilege as if it was your super power and help defeat injustice, inequality and the evil that capitalism brings
